At times, a room owner may wish to make their room private. The mechanics of this are described on the page Editing a Room. A private room allows the owner to restrict access to the room, and the games or lectures within. This is not without a cost though, and we would advise you to be aware of the following.
- Ranked games cannot be played in a private room
- You can only add the account names of the players, to whom you wish to grant access to the room, one at a time
- Changing the room type from Private to Free will erase the list of players you granted access to the room. You cannot ask an admin to restore the list for you if you want to change the room type back to private.
- Private games can be observed, whilst in progress, by everyone in the private room
- Once they have been finished, and the game closed, private games between students cannot then be loaded in Demo mode for review from the student's game list by anyone except the 2 students themselves. This is because they are private to those players. Thus, only the players themselves can load the games in the private room.
- However games saved to a disc as an SGF file can be loaded in a private room and then accessed by all present in the private room.
