Welcome to the 11th KGS Iron Man tournament! This is a very special one, as we celebrate in the Iron Man week the KGS 10th Anniversary!
The tournament is called an Iron Man tournament because endurance is key to doing well in this tournament. There will be 20 rounds spread over 5 days, with a new round starting every six hours. You can skip up to 15 rounds, so even if you can only play one round per day, you can still participate in this tournament! But of course, playing in more rounds than the minimum of 5 will give you a better final position - as long as you manage to win the extra rounds that you play in!
The tournament is OPEN to ALL KGS members. One doesn't need to be a KGS Plus member to register to the open division. All ratings are welcome.
The handicap division is a handicap tournament limited to KGS Plus members who are regular players on KGS: they must enter with their strongest account which must be 1k or weaker, they must have played rated games for at least 6 weeks, and they must have at least 30 rated games played before April 17th (for instance: having played the 30 games in the last week won't be accepted). Also people who have been previously disqualified from a KGS tourney are not allowed to enter the kyu division, they can still enter the open division. People who do not fullfill those conditions but register to the kyu division anyway may be disqualified anytime (before the tournament starts, during a game, during a round, or even once 20 rounds are over). A disqualified player will have no prize and won't be allowed to enter upcoming tourneys.
The time settings are 45 minutes plus byo yomi (5 periods of 30 seconds).
To choose which rounds you sit out, click on the link "you can request a bye here" on the right. If you are on the server when a round starts, and you haven't requested a bye, then you must play in the round or take a loss. This is very important to prevent your opponent from waiting in an empty goban, so please use that feature!
IMPORTANT: you are allowed to attend only one of the two divisions and are expected to use your strongest account on KGS. If you KGS Plus account is not your strongest account, please register to the "open" division. You are also supposed to respect your opponent: late players may forfeit after 20 minutes -- rudeness or escaping won't be welcome either.
