SG Vision
The long term vision of the SG is to strengthen the Go community by gathering together a group of avid KGS Go players who are interested in helping others. The hope is that the SG will be a source of future KGS dans, admins, teachers, and just generally helpful and socially oriented KGS'ers. The SG is currently targeted towards the teen-k's.
Other KGS Programs
The SG actively encourages its members to take advantage of other KGS programs and events such as:
These events are held in the KTL, the Tournament, and the KGS Plus Club rooms, respectively.
SG members are also encouraged to take advantage of the lectures, tournaments, ladders, and private tutoring that are available in other rooms. For example, many SG members participate in the Advanced Study Room ladder, and they say so in their info pages.
SG Projects
The SG develops projects that nurture the development of future KGS dans, admins, and teachers. Each project is eventually spun off so that it can develop a life of its own. Some projects currently under development are:
Hundreds of hours have been devoted by dozens of SG members and friends to the development of these and other SG and TSR projects.
The Study Room
The Study Room is by far the most successful SG project to date. It provides a safe environment where SG members can study together, get to know each other, and interact with other members of the KGS community. Anybody can join The Study Room. Even the TSR leadership is not restricted to SG members.
TSR members gain room monitoring experience. All TSR members work together together to welcome newbies and make the TSR a fun place to hang out. Members in the position of owner, manager, and mentor exercise a leadership role in creating a positive and friendly environment. TSR room members who are way-out-of-line are asked to leave the room.
All TSR members are actively encouraged to teach other TSR members. The hope is to develop future KGS teachers.
Kyu Buddies
SG members are asked if they would like to be assigned a "buddy". A new buddy list is published every month or so. Buddy pairs may be assigned a sensei if they wish. Membership is not restricted to SG members.
SG Journal
The SG publishes an occasional journal called "Go Secrets" aimed at kyu level players.
SG Library
The SG maintains a small library of electronic Go reference material.
